Emma’s blog – freedom!!

Dear supporters, I hope you are keeping well and sane during these times. It feels like such a long time ago when we were able to be out and about seeing our supporters at our events, but hopefully we’ll all be able to see each other again soon.

Last week, Alex finally got his new power trike, an amazing machine which can go up to 20 miles per hour. We’ve always been reluctant to get a power chair as it felt like we were giving into him being able to walk, but the time has come that Alex struggles walking long distances and can fall at any moment, its heart breaking to see him struggle – so struggle no more little man. He is still able to walk and will walk whenever he wants.

The look on his face when he first got in it – being able to feel the wind in your hair just like we do when we ride a bike – Alex has never been able to ride a bike so hasn’t been able to experience this for himself.

This is going to give him so much freedom, he’s already been zooming around the village countless times in it already. There’s no stopping him. He’s covered 28 miles in just over a week – now that shows how much this means to him. I’m so proud of him and so pleased he’s finally got what he needs.

We may still be in lock down, but this new power trike has given Alex a huge boost and we can’t wait to get out and about over the Summer months.

I’d just like to say finally, to everyone who has continued to support us at Alex’s Wish over the past few months – thank you from the bottom of our hearts, it means so much – we are fighting hard to bring effective treatments to all boys living with Duchenne and every single penny we raise will help us do just that.

Much love, Emma – Alex’s mum and Founder of Alex’s Wish X
