We are so honoured that Alex’s Wish will benefit from a new partnership with Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) as the club revives its Foundation.

Alongside Alex’s Wish, Healing Little Hearts have been selected by LCCC as partners for the club’s charity arm which has been refreshed as part of the club’s new strategy.

The Foundation will also subsidise LCCC’s Academy of Cricket and will provide much-needed support for grassroots community cricket clubs.

The relaunch supports the club’s aim to use cricket for good – a key target set out earlier in the year within the LCCC’s roadmap to success.

Both charities will directly benefit from fundraising initiatives led by the club which will go toward improving the lives of young children and their families.

Alex’s Wish aims to eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most aggressive form of Muscular Dystrophy that affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born. The charity fundraises to bring about effective treatments and ultimately a cure for the condition.

Healing Little Hearts offers free heart surgery to babies and children born with Congenital Heart Disease. The charity sends medical teams to perform life-saving heart operations on children in the developing parts of the world.

Sean Jarvis, CEO for LCCC said that these two charities were both incredibly worthwhile causes to support.

“Both charities deliver invaluable work to improve the lives of children and their families. I’m really pleased that we can use our network to inspire our members to raise much-needed funds through our Foundation,” he said.

Emma Hallam, co-founder of Alex’s Wish said: “We’re so excited to be partnering with LCCC as part of our fundraising strategy to support research and treatments into this devastating disease which currently has no cure. As a relatively small local charity, we’re always looking for new opportunities to raise the profile of our work and help more families like us get the help they need.”

Dr Sanjiv Nichani OBE, Founder of Healing Little Hearts said: “Thank you to LCCC for selecting us as one of the Foundation’s charity partners. We want to continue to support very young children who rely on our support for life-saving medical care and the money raised from the Foundation initiatives will play a big part in that.”

Sean added: “The Foundation will lead on two major fundraising initiatives a year and aims to drive income generation into the charities. All money raised will be split across the two charities, our Academy of Cricket and placed into a fund for community cricket clubs to access. The work of the Foundation will play a vital role in the survival of our grassroots cricket clubs, whilst generating much-needed cash for these charities.”

The Foundation is set to launch its first initiative – the Century A Day Challenge. Fundraisers are being asked to walk, run, cycle one mile a day, every day throughout November – the same distance as 100 cricket runs. Fundraisers are reminded that the challenge should be completed with social distancing measures in place, whilst adhering to local restrictions.
