Intrepid group abseils down inside of iconic tower for Alex’s Wish!
High winds didn’t stop supporters of Leicestershire charity Alex’s Wish from abseiling down The National Lift Tower in Northampton, which at 418ft is the world’s largest abseil tower.
Not to be deterred, they completed the sponsored abseil from the inside of the iconic structure instead of the outside
The intrepid group of 27 included four Alex’s Wish Trustees; Glynis Wright, Sandesh Jesrani, Sally Barnett and Chris Everard, as well as some of the Miss GB ladies.
Chris Cain , managing director of IT solutions company KAZZOO in Oadby came up with the abseil idea and rallied the support of friends and colleagues.
He said: “I spotted The National Lift Tower while at my daughter’s graduation and thought it would be an amazing challenge to abseil down it for charity. It was a great experience and what better cause to do it for than Alex’s Wish?” Our slogan is Be More Alex in recognition of Alex’s positive outlook and his can-do attitude, so Alex’s Wish sprang to his mind instantly!
Emma added: “I’d like to thank all our abseilers. They were all so brave and not put off at all by the change of plan. A cocktail or two was waiting for them at the bottom!
Their heroic efforts raised just under £9,000, so a big thank you too to everyone who sponsored them. We’re doing a sponsored abseil again next year so please contact us if you’d like to take part!
