Our first Patron – Tyler Bernardini

We are so thrilled that Riders star player Tyler Bernardini has agreed to become one of our first Patron.  Tyler, who has Captained the Leicester Riders team for the past two seasons and who originally hails from San Diego, California, said that he was delighted to become a Patron for Alex’s Wish adding, “I am extremely excited to be partnering with Alex’s Wish.  I sincerely hope to bring increased exposure and awareness to the incredible fight going on against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

From speaking with both Emma and Zoe at the charity I understand that we are at a key point in terms of research into Duchenne.  I was deeply moved to hear Emma speaking about this generation of boys suffering from Duchenne – which includes her own son, Alex – being either the last to die from this horrible muscle wasting disease or the first to survive.  Whatever I can do to help – I’m all in.”

At Alex’s Wish we are big Leicester Riders fans so to hear that Tyler had agreed to become a Patron for us was just beyond exciting!  Tyler and his wife, Emily very kindly joined us at our ball recently as guests of honour and we will be working closely together over the forthcoming year!

Whilst the Leicester Riders keeps Tyler incredibly busy he insists that he will make the time necessary to support Alex’s Wish, adding, “Since my family and I came to the UK back in 2014 I have completed my Master’s degree at Loughborough University whilst Captaining the Leicester Riders.  In that time we’ve won 5 trophies and won the treble in the 2016 / 2017 season, but frankly that’s nothing compared to what the boys with Duchenne and their families are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.  Nowadays we are all busy, it’s just about prioritisation, it’s going to be a busy year ahead but a fun one and one that I am very, very much looking forward to.”
